Melksham’s very own cage fighter heading for the top

MELKSHAM’S Brad Scott has come out tops after fighting a top 20 UK ranked opponent in Dubai as part of the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship MMA event.
Brad beat opponent Mok Rahman who is ranked as one of the top 20 UK fighters, in the third round by TKO.
The face-off took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre on the 16th of March and 22- year-old Brad says this is another step on the long road to fighting as part of the prestigious UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).
Brad, who trains out of Dragons Lair in Melksham said, “It’s the biggest fight I’ve ever had in terms of venue and crowd.
“I was relaxed and confident, managing to fight my own fight.
“We got into Dubai a few days early and that made all the difference, as we had time to adjust. I was relaxed and confident going into the fight.
“I rate Rahman, he’s a tough fighter. But it’s a real credit to my training that I’ve won here.”
Brad says that he is in the gym at least nine or ten times a week, with more sessions leading up to a fight.
“If you’re going to succeed, you need to have a high level of dedication” said Brad, “if you don’t, you’re going to get hurt.”
There was no rest for Brad as he travelled back from Dubai on Saturday 17th of March and was back in the gym for training on Monday 19th.
Stu Pike who coaches Brad at Dragons Lair said, “I think Brad has got what it takes to go all the way to the UFC. He’s a tough kid with a lot of dedication.
“It was good to see him win in Dubai, but he will be focusing on getting the next fight now.”

CHANNEL 4′s own TV chefs, The Fabulous Baker Brothers, have praised a local store as “a real champion of local food.” The celebrity chefs aka Tom and Henry Herbert visited Lowden Garden Centre on Friday 2nd of March to promote their new book and put on a cooking demonstration. They rustled up a steak dish dubbed the Epic Trencher, which was made on one of their shows.
Speaking to Melksham News, Tom said, “We both like Lowden, there’s a great range of food here all locally sourced. We’ve been here a few times before and it’s always busy, that’s a real testament to all the hard work put in by the staff.
“It’s a real champion of local food.” Tom and Henry were also promoting their new book aptly titled “The Fabulous Baker Boys.” Tom commented, “Recipes from the show are all included in the book, including the Epic Loafer that we made, which consists of fried steak on a sourdough loaf with watercress, garlic and mushrooms.”

Melksham lights up for Christmas!

The Christmas Lights Group have dedicated this year’s festive display to Melksham man Roy Bowen who was influential in founding the group around 20 years ago. Sadly, Roy died earlier this year. His widow, Julia, switched on Melksham’s Christmas lights on Saturday 26th November. Paul Weymouth and his team of volunteers work around the clock to make sure Melksham’s lights are the best within miles!

Melksham supports Children in Need 2011

SCHOOLS and businesses across the town have shown their support for this year’s Children in Need fundraising event, by dressing in spots and fancy dress, with a handful of brave teachers at one school opting to have their legs waxed.
Money is still being donated for the BBC’s annual Children in Need appeal, but the current total raised on Friday 18th November is already over £26million – an increase on previous years.
